Arne Slot the Liverpool manager, warned Liverpool of the challenges that are yet to come on their season after the Reds defeated Wolves in a hard-fought Premier League clash.
With a spirited victory over Wolves Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season taking three points and topping the standings after six games.
Wolves put up a strong fight and showed tenacity and quality throughout the game despite sitting last in the league.
Arne Slot warned Liverpool after Wolves game
The Liverpool boss acknowledged Wolves outstanding performance despite their low league standing after the game and provided a reality check on the teams top spot.
Arne Slot said on LiverpoolFC,
“It’s almost ideal that we played Wolves today because we are top and they’re last, and they absolutely don’t deserve to be last.
They had a very difficult fixture list, and I’ve seen many games of them and in almost every game they deserve more.
You could even argue [that] today because it wasn’t like we were so much better than them. They were in the game [and] doing a lot of good things.
If they keep doing this against other teams as well, they will never end up number 20 [in the league].
We still have to prove that when we come across Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea [and] Aston Villa [to see] if we can then still be up there with Champions League games included as well.”
He pointed out that although Liverpool’s current situation appears promising they still have tougher games against teams like Aston Villa, Newcastle, Arsenal, and Chelsea coming up.
Slot underlined that Liverpool’s ability to stay at the top will depend on how consistently they perform in the face of these impending tests particularly with Champions League games.
Will Liverpool be able to handle the challenges warned by Arne Slot? The answer lies in the upcoming days.
