Arne Slot the Liverpool manager, when asked about his man-management skills he quoted the recent Manchester City injury woes, especially Rodri.
Following Diogo Jota’s two goals in Liverpool’s 5-1 Carabao Cup victory over West Ham, head coach Arne Slot stressed the need of controlling the forward’s playing time to avoid more injuries.
Despite being a fan-favorite and known for his clinical finishing Jota has experienced numerous injury setbacks since joining from Wolves in 2020.
Arne Slot quoting City injury woes
According to Slot maintaining Jota’s fitness for the demanding Premier League schedule requires careful rotation preparation during the week and the entire preseason.
Although management is important he also mentioned that luck plays a role in preventing failures.
He said at the post-match press conference,
Sometimes there are small margins, sometimes you can be unlucky as well.
If you saw what happened with Rodri (who suffered knee ligament damage in Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal).
That is so, so unlucky for him. It’s trying to prepare them in the best possible way, but in the end, you need a bit of luck as well.
What the players can do is be as professional as possible, live in the best possible way for their career and I think that’s what they’ve done till now and what they are doing at the moment – and we, as a staff, try to prepare them in the best possible way to go without injuries through this period.
Slot used Rodri, a midfielder for Manchester City and his recent knee ligament injury as an illustration of how unpredictably and regretfully injuries can occur.
The Liverpool manager emphasized during his press conference after the game that although the coaching staff can do everything in their power to prepare the players injuries can still occur.
Although he acknowledged that keeping a fully healthy roster requires a combination of good planning and luck he praised the Liverpool team for their professionalism and commitment to staying fit.
