Arne Slot the Liverpool boss defended Darwin Nunez when the reporter tried to criticize the Reds striker and showing how passionate the Liverpool boss is about his players.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot celebrated his historic eighth win in nine games, as the teams head coach after his team defeated Bologna 2-0.
But when a reporter questioned Darwin Nunez’s performance saying the Uruguayan forward hadn’t performed well enough in the game or the Premier League 2024–25 season thus far the post–match press conference turned heated.
Slot Defends Liverpool striker Nunez
After giving it careful thought Slot defended Nunez pointing out that it was his first start of the year and that the criticism was partly due to his lack of playing time and teammates lack of encouragement.
Slot slammed the reporter saying,
“You also have to look at the playing time he got. I think it was his first start of the season so I don’t look at it like you have and only focus on the individual,
I think in the first hour we didn’t create a lot of chances for him because we missed our last pass on numerous occasions.
[…] Today he was also involved with a team that was really hard and tough on him, and his team-mates didn’t always find him when they could have, so it’s a bit early to say after three games he only scored one.”
Despite a few outstanding plays made during the game like Trent Alexander-Arnolds pass to Luis Diaz Slot underlined that Nunez’s short playing time should be taken into account when assessing his stats.
Nunez has only made six appearances in all competitions totaling just over two and a half full games or 246 minutes of play and has only scored one goal.
According to Slot, its too soon to make harsh judgments about the strikers form because his goal record looks more favorable when considered in this context.
Liverpool fans are happy that their boss defends his player not only passionately but also in a way that the striker’s confidence is protected from media criticisms.
