After Martin Zubimendi’s reportedly regretting his decision of not joining the Reds over the summer, Anthony Lopes also reveals he regrets not leaving Lyon this summer.
The Portuguese international has fallen down the pecking order at Lyon under new manager Pierre Sage. Lucas Perri is currently playing number one at Lyon.
Anthony Lopes regretting his decision to reject Liverpool?
In an interview with L’Equipe, Lopes revealed: “Yes, it’s true that I had opportunities very early in the transfer window, especially one in a very big European team.”
“Honestly, it wasn’t my goal at that time to be number two, but if it had happened at the end of the transfer window, maybe my choice would have been different.”
Anthony Lopes rejected the approach from Liverpool as he did not want to be a back-up to Alisson. If he had accepted the approach he would have already made his debut due to Alisson’s injury.
Anthony Lopes is currently fourth choice at Lyon. He could have featured for the Reds against Bournemouth and West Ham.
The Reds then went on to sign Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is set to join the club from 2025. However Kelleher’s future is unclear, the Irishmen had expressed concerns over his playing time. Mamardashvili’s arrival might be the end for Kelleher at Liverpool.
