Andy Robertson has finally expressed his side, more than a fortnight after Liverpool tied 2-2 against Arsenal in the Premier League.
This incident threw his chances away of being in the lineup, and Kostas Tsimikas replaced him. The Scotsman kept spending time on the bench as the Reds went on to defeat Brighton and Leverkusen.
Andy Robertson speaks out following criticism after Liverpool vs Arsenal sub
Due to Andrew’s mistake, Bukayo Saka scored the opening goal for The Gunners, and he got subbed off in the 63rd minute. However, the Dutchman gave him his position back in the match against Aston Villa, where LFC picked up a 2-0 win.
Talking to Lewis Steele of The Mail, Robertson admitted about the scrutiny he went through after Liverpool vs Arsenal.
“Probably a bad 45 minutes of football against Arsenal, it was not great…I think pretty much everyone had written me off after that. That is football and that is what happens these days. People can write me off all they want.
Last couple of games I’ve been on the bench and I got doubters for the first time in a long time, first time at this club. But it suits me in this position. I am trying to prove people wrong.”
Robertson is one of the senior players of the Liverpool squad. Despite the usual scrutiny, the 30-year-old expressed that Slot is ‘honest’ and ‘very open’.
“There is mutual respect between both of us even if we don’t agree with the team lineups!
I like starting and being on the pitch but when I’m not I try to be as professional as I can and just try to do my talking on the training pitch and wait for my chance.”
His inclusion in the lineup proves that the team needs an experienced man like Andrew. Apart from over 300 appearances for Liverpool, Robertson has won both the Premier and Champions League. He still has an important role to play in the team, and Slot understands it pretty well.
