Liverpool are linked to a number of midfielders, including Mac Allister, Barella, and others, this summer as part of their midfield rebuild for the next season.

Alexis Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s main targets along with at least 2 players in the midfield position. The Reds are expected to be very much active in the transfer market, especially for the midfield position.

Klopp’s side has seemingly left it late as most of their midfielders are running out of contract with the club this summer.

It could be a possibility that transfers could take place all in one go with plenty of options having been suggested as transfer arrivals.

With the current season being a poor one, the major problem has been the injuries, yes. But also it is due to the inconsistent midfield performances of the players.

At least two, or arguably more, will be required to turn things around in the center of the pitch for Liverpool. Moreover, Klopp needs to replace the outgoing Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Milner, and Melo.

Besides, these players haven’t made a frequent appearance in the starting XI for Klopp and that is an issue that needs to be addressed. However, the next season the Reds need to find reliable and consistent midfielders.

The midfield options for Liverpool for the next season

The Reds are linked to many midfielders in the market and it is a bit hard to pick out the dream midfield scenario.

Inter Milan’s midfield maestro, Nicolo Barella has been one of the names in Liverpool’s targets. And he would surely be a huge step up for the Reds and would improve the midfield situation for them.

Klopp is also reportedly a huge admirer of the 26-year-old and he could be a versatile player for the Reds. He would fit in the PL as his physical attributes appear to be perfectly suited for the English game.

However, Mason Mount is said to be another serious target that Liverpool are seemingly pursuing. The Chelsea man has been on Liverpool’s radar ever since falling out with the club over a contract dispute.

Moreover, with the transfer fee somewhere around €40m, he fits the bill for the Reds as well. The 24-year-old has one year left on his contract and Chelsea wouldn’t want to lose him on a free.

The Englishman is also someone who could fit in Klopp’s team and be a creative playmaker. He could be a no. 8, or a no. 6 and adapt to the German’s way of playing.

Moreover, the names like Ryan Gravenberch and the Uruguayan starlet, Manuel Ugarte have been heard a lot over the past week.

However, Liverpool seems to be genuinely pursuing their interest in Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentine has been a serious candidate that Klopp wishes to bring to Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister could be a good fit at Anfield

The World Cup winner would be a great fit for the Reds and his pairing up with Trent and Fabinho could be good. The creative midfielder is having a great campaign at Amex and is rumoured to be leaving Brighton this summer.

However, the Reds cannot wait for the season to end and Liverpool needs to make their presence felt in the transfer market. If Klopp needs to be competing for every trophy the next season, they need to go from the very first day of the new campaign.

The trio of targets in Barella, Mount, and Mac Allister could cost a combined around €177m, as per Transfermarkt‘s valuation. It would be a big ask, yes, but the Reds need to go out and all in terms of spending. Liverpool needs to bring in quality signings to bolster their midfield.
