In response to the rumours circulating about his Liverpool contract, Trent Alexander-Arnold has stated that he is currently more concerned with honing his defensive techniques than he is with his long-term future with the team.
Granted previous critiques, he feels that with the new coaching staff, he has improved his defensive skills considerably.
Alexander-Arnold opens up about Liverpool contract
The English star’s contributions have been crucial to Liverpool’s successful start to the Premier League campaign which includes an outstanding defensive record.
Alexander-Arnold is driven to live up to the high standards set by the Dutch manager Arne Slot, hoping to become one of Europe’s best defenders.
He said,
“I have responsibilities to make sure my winger doesn’t get a sniff in the game. I set targets for every game – how many times am I dribbled past, how many times does he get a cross, how many times a shot?”
We talked about targets and aims and I said to him that I would like to be the defender that no one wants to come up against in Europe,” Alexander-Arnold added.
We agreed that he will be harsh on me. Any time an attacker gets past me he will call it out in meetings and individual meetings and say this cannot happen.
It is really refreshing to have a manager who will help and guide and teach me how to be better.”
Alexander-Arnold, who is committed to Liverpool, has a contract that expires in the summer of 2025 along with two other senior players.
Talking about his contract, the England international further added saying,
“I have always said I want to captain the club. That is a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands,
I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say.
The most important thing is always trophies. I want to win trophies.”
He understands that it is not entirely his decision, but he has always wanted to assume a leadership position within the club.
His entire attention is fixed on getting the team to win as many trophies and accomplish its objectives.
Trent is optimistic about the teams’ chances of success this season and feels that consistency is essential given their near success the previous season.
