Drama Unfolds as Alisson’s Blunder Almost Hands Diaz a Goal in Copa America Clash!
The performance of Alisson Becker against Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz at Copa America has the Brazilian Media saying, “Alisson, what were you thinking?”
Liverpool stars Alisson Becker and Luis Diaz faced off in an intense Copa America match on Wednesday. The Reds’ South American stars, competing in the United States this summer, had already booked their tickets for the quarter-finals before the match.
Darwin Nunez has been on fire for Uruguay. Not to mention, Uruguay have maintained a flawless record in the group stage. Similarly, Alexis Mac Allister and Argentina have also achieved three consecutive victories.
Colombia aimed to continue their winning streak against Brazil in Santa Clara. While Alisson and his Brazilian teammates sought to overtake Colombia and top their group.
If Brazil secured a win, they would have faced Panama in the quarter-finals. Failing to win meant they would now face one of the tournament favourites Uruguay.
Brazil Media Not Happy With Alisson At All
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, causing frustration to the Brazil fans. They had previously drawn with Costa Rica. This result means they can not surpass Colombia in the group standings.
Raphinha, once a Liverpool transfer target, scored a spectacular free-kick early for Brazil. But Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz equalized for Colombia just before halftime.
Nunez will be difficult for Alisson to stop now that Colombia have secured the top spot. Nunez is currently leading Uruguay in goal scoring.
During the match against Colombia, Alisson managed to prevent Diaz from scoring. However, Brazilian outlet Globo criticized Alisson for a serious mistake. They rated him five out of ten, stating, “gave the ball to Luis Diaz,” which created a scoring opportunity that Diaz most fortunately missed.
Apart from this scandalous error, Alisson’s performance was adequate. He made a good save from James Rodriguez. He was reliable when necessary and had nothing to do with the goal he conceded.
Nonetheless, the incident with Diaz impacted his whole rating very negatively. Last but not the least, as the Copa America progresses, Liverpool players are continuing to impress.
